1913 General Election

1910 Election
1919 Election

The 1913 General Election was the seventeenth general election to the Ivonian Parliament. The incumbent Country Party government under Marcus Henson sought re-election against the Labour Party.

The previous election had seen the victory of the Country Party by the narrowest margins, retaining government even after ten years. The Country Party tacked towards the center, and passed legislation that would be attractive for the voters in the few marginal constituencies that had decided the nature of government.

With the national census now a regular process, as part of the Census Act of 1908, the voter rolls and population figures were updated in between the 1910 and 1913 elections. These showed that the electorate of Ivonia had grown from 3,264,088 people to 3,434,552 people - marking roughly five percent population growth over those three years.

Prime Minister Henson went to the Governor-General on May 12, 1913, and the election was set for June 26, 1913.

The Whitaker Herald survey found the favorabilities for the parties as 51% in favor of the Country Party, 55% in favor of the Dominion Party and 63% in favor of the Labour Party.

Results

Once again, the Country Party government was re-elected. The party gained the ultra-marginal seat of South York from the Labour Party but otherwise saw its votes received drop by a few hundred as the Dominion Party's campaign proved to be quite popular. The Labour Party's vote share suffered more substantially, losing nearly four percent in the election.

Marcus Henson, having served as Prime Minister since 1903, continued in the position. Christopher Crawford once again found himself on the cusp of government but still short of the prize.
